If stepping on Legos burned calories, we’d be in elite shape right now. 😅

At this point, the amount scattered across our house could rival the Great Wall of China.

“C” has turned into a full-blown Lego architect 👷🏻‍♂️

Cranking out builds labeled 7+ like it’s nothing… he just turned 5.

It’s impressive. It’s inspiring. It’s also chaotic.

Because wherever he goes, a trail follows.

Like a random mid-April tornado week here in Wisconsin 🌧️

It blows over fast and is impossible to ignore.

We have been overwhelmed with the mess left behind by this little human twister

So what do we do?

When problems show up, Becka doesn’t hesitate.

Quick Amazon run. Small shelving system. Boom, organized. ✔️

For a moment… peace.

Now if only we could organize the meltdowns when a piece is “missing”…
(Only to magically appear the second help arrives 🙃)

That’s when we realized, our kids don’t struggle with building things.

They struggle with struggling.

Because for most of their lives… things have just worked.

Now? They’re stepping into something new:
Failure.

Feeling Out Failure

You’ve heard it before:
“If at first you don’t succeed… dust yourself off and try again.”

Shout out to those who read that with the Timbaland beat in their head 🎧
RIP Aaliyah. Truly a generational talent. 🥺

Simple line. Brutal reality.
The fastest way to learn anything is very simple.

Just try.

There’s a caveat though…
You’ve got to be okay with looking bad while doing it. 🫣

Be brave enough to not care when you fail.

Nothing is perfect. Not for you. Not for your kids.

We have the secret recipe for you,
If you chase perfection long enough, you might just stumble into greatness.

Take the following legends for example,
without constantly taking the field without a fear of failure,
they may not have achieved the stunning accolades in their career:

Brett Favre – Most consecutive starts (321), Top 5 in TD passes (508)
Butttttt Most interceptions (336)

Cy Young – 511 wins (most all time) butttttt 315 losses (most all time)

Nolan Ryan – Most Strikeouts (5,714), buttttt Most walks allowed (2,795) & Top 3 in losses (292)

Kobe Bryant –5x Champion, 4th most Points (32,597),
Butttttttt Most missed shots (14,481),

Lebron James – Most points (43,440), Most playoff wins (188)
Butttttt Most finals games lost (33) and Most Turnovers (5,650)

Cristiano Ronaldo – Most goals (925) and PK goals (183) all time,
Buttttt Most missed Penalty kick’s (34)

There’s a pattern:

  • The best throw a lot… and miss a lot

  • The best shoot a lot… and miss a lot

  • The best compete a lot… and lose a lot

Reps create results. Reps also create failure.

If you’re not failing in bulk, you’re probably not playing big enough.

Don’t be embarrassed.

That goes for you.
That goes for your kids.

Let them mess up.
Let them get frustrated.
Let them figure it out.

Because confidence isn’t built from winning.
It’s built from surviving losing—and going again. 🔁

Don’t aim for normal.
That’s crowded.

Aim for something you’re proud of.

Learn to Like Losing 🥴

Sounds backwards, right?

Nobody likes losing. Especially kids.

For our boys, everything is a competition.

It’s like they’ve had a century long rivalry at the ripe ages of 5 & 7

Getting dressed.
Running to the car.
Cleaning up.
Even dinner somehow turns into a race. 🏁

At one point, Becka said,
“Everything doesn’t have to be a competition.”

“B” fires back instantly: “But it can be!” 😏

And honestly, he’s not wrong.

But you see, competition isn’t the problem.

We’re working our darndest to teach them a difficult and frustrating lesson:
Losing isn’t the end of the world!

Because losing is where the real questions show up:

  • Where did I mess up?

  • What could I do better?

  • What did I miss?

Winning feels good, don’t get me wrong but,
Losing makes you better.

That’s the trade.

So when a game of HORSE ends in tears 😢
(or anything else where someone doesn’t come out on top…)

We remind them:

You’re not supposed to win every time.
You’re supposed to learn every time.

Perfect record are near impossible to attain, but you know what’s not? Growth.

And growth is messy. Loud. Frustrating.

A lot like a house full of Legos. 🧱

Sometimes you win.
Sometimes you don’t.

And that’s okay.

Because That’s B.A. 💪🏻
