There’s a scene where the kid asks for the same music video (basically Barney) 7 times until Adam Sandler finally snaps.

That’s our 4-year-old right now…

“CAN WE PUT UP THE CHRISTMAS TREE?”🎄
On repeat.
All day.
Every day.
Relentless.

No exaggeration: 35 times a day since November 1st.
And every “No, not yet” triggered a meltdown worthy of its own TMZ headline. 😭

It got so intense that our 13-year-old couldn’t focus on piano practice…  he started improvising his own Adele parody instead:

“I asked you to settle down,
but you won’t so instead you’re crying now…” 🎤😂

It’s chaos over here. But hey, normal Tuesday.

Now don’t get me wrong
We love the holidays and happily decorate early.
But we still had Halloween skulls and pumpkins everywhere. 🎃
Just a few days, kid. We promise. 

Cue up a 55° sunny day… a gift from the heavens for November in Wisconsin

We used it to pack away Halloween inflatables, outdoor furniture, all the fall décor and trimmings we possibly can handle.

We walk back inside, sweaty and tired, and immediately hear:

“Can we put up the Christmas tree now?” 🤦🏻‍♂️

SERIOUSLY?!?! 

This dude is Bad and Boujee.
Straight savage, ruthless. 
Locked-in like he’s clinging to an inspirational kitten poster. 😺

Patience, my guy. We’ll get there.

👩🏼‍🎤 I’m Yelling Timber

Even though we’re fans of blowing trees at leisure💨
The next event hit us harder than some one-hitter quitter 

We finally had time to put up the first of two trees.
Drag the 6-footer upstairs,  erect it (giggity 🤭) plug it in…

And bam, a whole section of lights is out.
Top glowing. Bottom glowing. Middle dead. 🪦

I put my Fix-it Felix outfit on.
I swapped bulbs. I swapped fuses.
Six or seven 🙌🏻 rounds later… still nothing.

So that tree? It’s headed up to the spirit in the sky. 💀
Not ideal after only 4 years, but it was cheaper than buying real trees every year.

Becka says “I may have manifested a new tree”... so that came to fruition.

Whatever.  On to the bigger 7.5’ tree.

“A” starts to set it up…
I go to help attach the top and OPE!
Numerous sections of lights are off… Dang Nabbit

Of course. 😑

Revisit the can-do, fix it attitude for 30 minutes and zip, zilch, nada.

Welp 🤷🏻‍♂️

Two trees.
Both dead.
Both smelling weirdly dusty. 🌫️

I originally considered spraying them down with balsam-fir Poo-Pourri to give them a fresh and somewhat natural smell before their tragic demise. 

Personally, not a big fan of the scent, so using it up in this situation formed a fitting double entendre.

Turns out the trees probably got wet during the flood this summer, sitting on the floor in our basement.  First time we’ve ever had any moisture issues down there. #Thankful

So…

🎄 Cringe-mas

Some of you may be part of team “No Decorations Until After Thanksgiving.”
And no hard feelings here.  You do you, boo-boo

But with our schedule?
We need a head start. 🟢

Between the breakfasts, light shows, school events, family parties, travel, juggling energy levels, and keeping kids from turning full-Krampus… procrastination is not an option. 🙅🏻‍♂️

Otherwise, the pressure starts to mount higher than a king of the hill snowbank in the 90’s. 🗻

Our goal this year: avoid cramming our entire existence into four December weekends. 
That’s a fast track to burnout, abusing Christmas spirit’s 🍸just to get through it. 

This is the time for family fun and feeling like a kid again.
Make it special for those around you.

Deck the halls, trim your trees, and run your holiday train on a timeline that works best for you (or your kids demands)… not when society tells you to. ✨

Cheers to a little patience in your planning and, hopefully, your tree ain’t the only thing getting lit this year. 😉
