BA Origins: Part 1

Popcorn Stands & Skateboards

This month marks our 9th wedding anniversary 💍
and we figured, what better way to celebrate than to let you in on the real story?

Some of you know us well.
Most of you? Probably not much past the pictures on Facebook.

So, over the next couple weeks, we’re cracking open the vault:
sharing where we came from, how we met, and what makes us, US.

Hold on to your butts. This isn’t your average “how we met” tale.

Leading off: Adam’s antics

This is a story all about how his life got flipped, turned upside down.
We’d like to take a minute just sit right there,
we’ll tell you how he became the king of a recliner chair.

From 100 Pounds to Dad Bod 💪🏻

Adam’s life started in Milwaukee (upper back tattoo to prove it) growing up in a neighborhood called Bay View, where the sense of community and the hand-me-downs were endless.

Raised by a single mom who worked 2–3 jobs, he donned secondhand clothes, acquired secondhand toys, and a developed a first-class imagination. 🌈

Don’t hear what we’re not saying
He had almost every toy a boy could ask for. Thanks Mom!
He was spoiled by no bounds, of which only a mother can provide (no offense, Dads)

The 90’s action figure lineup was fully stocked:
Jurassic Park, Ghostbusters, Batman, TMNT
Every lair.
Every vehicle.
Every excuse to recreate epic battles in the living room.  🦖👻🦇🐢
(Now proudly watching his sons execute the same mystical, magical toy campaigns)

Speaking of the 90’s, who remembers those Riddell uniform equipment packages with helmet, jersey and pants that were in the JCPenney Christmas catalogs?
(Disclaimer: not real helmet 🤭)

Sports were bred in his DNA 🩸(Hence, last week’s episode)
Often discussing local teams with his 90yo grandmother and 70yo Mom to this day!

Baseball, soccer, basketball, anything that let him pretend he was the next superstar 🌟
He still signs up for way too many rec leagues.
Because if you’re almost 40 😱 you need something to offset the nachos.

School, Schmool 📚

Adam did the Catholic school circuit and was a stand-up choir boy for years!

But curriculum? Meh. He saw it as a thief of neighborhood play time.

Teenage years brought some game-changers: skateboarding 🛹 and snowboarding 🏂
No one can ride the ramps or do the tricks for you.  No coach.  No teammates.
This brought a sense of individuality and personality rolled into one.

Suddenly, style, music, and self-expression clicked into place.
JNCO jeans, Airwalks, wallet chain, choker necklace, Limp Bizkit.
No, not cringe whatsoever.

Dreams? Huge 🌍
Plans? Zero. ⛔

He wanted the pool, mansion (thanks MASH game), crotch-rocket, sweet cars, backyard skatepark, world travel…
But with low income and a “spend now, save never” philosophy, reality had other plans.

Jobs, Schemes, and Menards 💼

College lasted three semesters before Adam peaced out ✌️
It was expensive and he had absolutely no idea what he was doing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Jobs came and went:
🍿 Summerfest popcorn stand
🍽️ Catering gigs
🛬 Airport luggage handler
🍔 Culver’s

Even a wild detour into an AT&T door-to-door sales Ponzi scheme pipe dream.
The “success ladder” turned out to be just an old wooden, wobbly step stool.
You mean the ding-dong-ditch shindig didn’t pan out? (Shocking) Total bummer man

None of these were real winners or career changing by any means.

Like a knight in shining armor, all hail the legacy of Menard’s 🛠️

What. A. Blast!
Our roaring 20’s were a much simpler time.
Working, laughing, drinking, dancing and socializing was all that mattered.
Building friendships outta coworkers that stuck like glue.
Some sticking long enough to stand beside the wedding day.

Here’s where it all began.

Enter Becka 💕

Through mutual friends at Menard’s, Adam met Becka. They were young and goofy.
Suddenly an impressionable mark was left behind (literally… a big blue lip 💋

Going to Brewers games, having beach days, and late night’s was their specialty.
Just two young kids living it up while they can, navigating the trials of adulthood. (no refunds)
Think Disney rom-com, but with cheap beer, no musical talent, and Adam’s constant dancing 🕺🏻

Positive Plot Twist 👶🏻

Some odd symptoms came over Becka for a week,
when her best friend suggested trying something.

The result? An unexpected positive pregnancy test 🤰

Cue the whirlwind of emotions: nervousness, hope, panic, doubt, anxious
Not to mention, a bucketful of  “how the heck are we going to do this?”

Becka’s reaction? You’ll never guess…
